WHY OUR WORK MATTERS

Situational Analysis

Adolescent pregnancy remains a significant public health and socio-economic concern in Rwanda. In 2023 alone, over 19,000 teenage girls gave birth (NISR, 2023). Teen mothers outside wedlock are often subjected to stigma, school dropout, and limited job prospects. Additionally mental health challenges among youth aged 14–24 are rising sharply. Recent data shows that over 21% experience depression and 17% suffer from anxiety According to a 2022 report by the Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC)—worsened by  limited access to guidance, mental health services, accurate information on life skills, reproductive health These combined challenges lead to risky behaviors and making uninformed life decisions, highlighting the urgent need for holistic support.

The Notable Gap

While the government of Rwanda and civil society organizations have made notable progress, current interventions tend to be fragmented, underfunded, or limited in reach. There is still a notable lack of locally grounded, youth-led, and community-driven models that deliver mentorship, life planning, and SRH education in an integrated, scalable way. Destiny Helpers fills this gap but faces challenges in scaling operations, sustaining funding, and integrating into formal national youth systems.
